From the May 2019 recital: students 12-17 covering one of the most iconic rock songs of all time! To protect privacy of our students, we only upload audio to YouTube.
Poirier Studio of Music consists of 60+ creative and talented students. They're all ages, play many different instruments, and have varied goals in music and life. What they have in common is joy in playing their instruments, and drive to be the best they can be. You can hear them on YouTube, in talent shows, nursing homes, their churches, and at the studio's recitals every November and May. Several students even have singles out on Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play!
"Miss Abigail" grew up singing and playing piano and violin, and as the daughter of a music teacher and oldest child in her family and circle of friends, began teaching almost as soon as she began playing. She added flute at age 15, guitar at age 21, and many more since. The current list of instruments is as follows: piano, violin, flute, guitar, viola, cello, upright bass, bass guitar, mandolin, and drums. She has also dabbled in Appalachian dulcimer, trumpet, clarinet, and accordion.
She firmly believes that reading music and playing by ear are not contradictory abilities, and that they actually reinforce each other. She strives to help each student reach his or her own potential, and nurture a life-long love of music.
Besides teaching private lessons, Miss Abigail also performs professionally- both solo and in groups, teaches the general music classes at Amelia Island Montessori School, and directs the STRING-on! program for Golden Isles Youth Orchestra. Of all the things she does, she is the most passionate about getting students playing together, whether it be as a rock band or a string quartet.
There are three other things to know:
1. Miss Abigail's mother, the original founder of Poirier Studio of Music, passed away in 2000. Jane Poirier was a passionate learner, inspiring teacher, and dedicated mother who is greatly missed.
2. Miss Abigail was homeschooled K-10 and finished high school at a tiny (9 students total) Christian school. She is deeply grateful for this education and remains very pro-homeschool.
3. She loves riding motorcycles. Since 2007, she's ridden well over 100,000 miles. Her current bike is a Yamaha FJR1300 and she's been to most of the lower 48 states with her church's motorcycle group.
Poirier Studio of Music offers both group and private lessons for many different instruments, all in an environment where students are free to create music without fear of sounding bad or pressure to compete. Come in anytime and talk to us! We'd love to discuss what musical training you've already had and your goals--whether they're to turn pro or simple build a hobby you can enjoy for the rest of your life.
